Controls are the cheapest improvement available in this game. Nine bindings are published by the developer, and the two that most players never touch, lean and stance, are the two that decide doorway fights. This hub is the index for the input side of REALISTIC HOME DEFENSE.
The short version: read the PC table once, go to the practice range, and spend ten minutes making lean automatic. Everything else in the game gets easier afterwards.
The nine actions, in plain language
| Action | What it does | How often you will use it |
|---|---|---|
| Fire / Aim | Shoot, and tighten aim before shooting | Constantly |
| Reload | Refill the magazine | Every fight |
| Fire mode | Change how the weapon fires | Each time the range changes |
| Sprint | Move faster | Moving between positions |
| Crouch / prone | Lower your profile | Holding an angle |
| Lean | Aim around cover without stepping out | Before crossing a doorway |
| Switch weapon | Pick what you are holding | When the situation changes |
| Interact | Doors and context actions | Entering and leaving |
Three of those are the ones people under-use: fire mode, crouch and lean. Fire mode matters because the binding exists at all, which means at least one weapon behaves differently between modes. Crouch matters because a smaller silhouette at a doorway is harder to hit. Lean matters because it is the only way to look at something without offering yourself to it.
What changes between platforms
This is not a port with identical layouts. The three platforms differ in ways that change what you can do under pressure.
| PC | Console | Mobile | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aiming | Mouse | Right stick | Touch, with aim assist typical of Roblox mobile |
| Lean | Q / E | D-Pad | On-screen buttons |
| Stance | C | B | On-screen buttons |
| Sprint | Shift | L3 (stick click) | On-screen button |
| Weapon switch | 1–9 | Y / LB | Button |
| Layout editable | Not documented | Not documented | Yes, in Settings |
The mobile column is the one with a documented feature the others lack: the game says the on-screen buttons can be edited in Settings. If you play on a phone or tablet, that is the single highest-value change you can make, because the default layout is designed for a generic hand size.
Why lean is worth ten minutes of practice
Every guide on this site that touches combat will mention lean, so it is worth explaining once, properly.
A doorway is a known place. Anyone watching it has already chosen where to aim. If you walk through it, you are moving into a decision someone else made. If you lean out, you see first, and seeing first is most of the fight.
| Approach | Who sees whom first | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Walk through the door | They see you appear | They fire first |
| Lean out from the frame | You see them, they see a shoulder | You fire first |
| Crouch and lean | You see them, they see very little | Best case |
| Sprint through | Nobody sees anything clearly | Coin flip you did not need |
The cost is time: leaning slows your entry. In a three-minute round, a half-second per doorway is affordable. Dying at the first doorway is not.
Console and mobile, briefly
Console uses the same actions with face and shoulder buttons, and the published mapping is complete enough to play from: RT fires, LT aims, RB changes fire mode, B crouches or goes prone, L3 sprints, D-Pad leans, Y and LB switch weapons.
Mobile is a different proposition: on-screen buttons, editable layout, and touch aiming. The two things that transfer from PC are the sequence (look, lean, shoot) and the priority (learn the map before the aim). The thing that does not transfer is precision at range, so mobile players should expect to win fights at doorways and lose them across open ground.
We have not tested the mobile layout ourselves, so treat the mobile advice here as structural rather than measured.
Fixing a binding that seems broken
Before assuming a key is wrong, check these in order.
- Are you in the right context? Interact (G) does nothing if there is nothing to interact with. Reload (R) does nothing at full magazine.
- Is it a stance or mode state? Crouch and fire mode stay where you left them, so a key that "does nothing" may already be in the state you are pressing for.
- Are you on the platform you think? A cloud or mobile session has no keyboard bindings at all, even if a keyboard is attached.
- Is the key list from a different game? If a sheet tells you X changes stance, it is describing the console layout where X reloads. The PC key is C.
If none of that resolves it, the honest answer is that we cannot verify a per-key troubleshooting path without reproducing it, and we would rather say so than invent steps.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the controls in REALISTIC HOME DEFENSE?
Left click fires, right click aims, R reloads, V changes fire mode, Shift sprints, C crouches or goes prone, Q and E lean, 1–9 switch weapons, and G interacts. That is the developer's published list as of 25 October 2026.
Is there controller support?
Yes. The same published list includes console buttons for every action, which means the game is designed to be played with a controller rather than requiring a keyboard.
Can I change the mobile button layout?
Yes. The game says the mobile on-screen buttons are editable in Settings. That is the only rebinding the published documentation mentions.
Why does Q or E do nothing?
Leaning only has a visible effect when there is something to lean around, so in open ground it looks like nothing happens. Test it against a wall or a door frame in the practice range.
Do I need to change any default binds?
No, and there is no documented PC rebinding to change. What you do need is practice: lean and stance are the two actions that are technically bound but rarely used.
